The Medley Boys Most Frequently Asked Questions

How much space do you need?
Over our history we’ve adapted to perform in all sorts of spaces but it’s ideal if we can have an area of 2.5-3.5 metres wide and 1.5-2.5m deep for us and our equipment to fit.
We are comfortable performing both with or without a stage and it really depends on the circumstances as to whether it’s appropriate. We never insist on it but for certain environments (>120 guests, marquees, tall ceilings indoors, rowdy guests…) it’s often a good idea to have one. We can’t bring one ourselves but they aren’t too difficult or expensive to get hold of. These are the minimum dimensions we suggest for a stage with the standard duo setup (allow more for duo + sax bookings):
8 ft wide x 4 ft deep
(2.5 m wide by 1.5 m deep is roughly equivalent)
This is assuming there’s an additional 0.5 m or so on either side of the stage for the speaker system.
How is it best to time things?
For the timing of live sets, we’re flexible, but suggest that the 9-11 pm window is the best for dancing. Something like 8-8:50 DJ, 8:50-9:40 first set, 9:40-10:10 DJ, 10:10-11:00 second set, then DJ till 12 would be typical for us, but it’s up to you guys, and we’re also happy to judge it on the night.
Can I pick the bands playlist?
Re: setlist, we generally suggest that you pick a few medleys that you particularly like the sound of and, if you wish, 3-4 to avoid from our list.
They have been meticulously arranged, tested and refined over many gigs and all go down exceptionally well in the right circumstances. The list above is not a full repertoire and it evolves a little each year, but it should give you an idea of our range. Of course please do let us know your musical preferences in the questionnaire we send out before the event. However, as tempting as it can be to want to choose everything oneself, we advise you to trust us with putting the set together as we are very experienced at reading the crowd. You're of course welcome to request specific songs for our DJ sets too.
Where will you travel to?
The moon if necessary, although costs vary - we are based in London.
Can I see you play live?
I’m afraid we don’t do many public shows, but you can get in touch to ask just in case.
Will you learn our special song?

Can we use your sound system for speeches?

What equipment do you use?
Our standard lineup is a duo- 2 x multitasking lead vocalists who sing, rap and play an instrument (one on guitar, the other on drums, with both controlling the electronic elements of our sound). This lineup produces a very full sound on its own and we’re comfortable performing to any size of crowd with just the two musicians. There are a few options for additional instruments (sax/trumpet/female vocals) though, if you’d prefer a larger lineup:
They’re all great additions, especially for larger spaces, but are not essential. Our unique style and beautifully-crafted medleys remain the same no matter the size of the band, and we perform about 70% of our gigs as a duo.
Do you have lights?
Yes.
How long do you play for?
Generally, 2x 50 minute sets, although we can play longer or shorter if necessary.
What time do you start and finish?
Typically, our live sets might start at 8:30 pm and end around 11.30, but every event is different
How long do you take to set up?
60 minutes.
Can I provisionally book you?
We require a non-refundable 25% deposit, but yes.
What if the band split up before my event?
This won’t happen- our band has been built around a unique musical identity defined by our intricate medleys, rather than any one singer’s voice. We’re proud to say we’ve never missed or cancelled a gig due to illness, emergencies, or travel issues. This consistency is thanks to our select group of highly vetted musicians, all of whom have mastered the our medleys.
Can my sisters/bosses/daughter's dog sing with your band?
With a bit of notice, yes.
What will the band wear?

Does the band have PAT and PLI certificates?
Yes.

A room to use after set up and in between sets, and a hot meal.
What type/size venues are you able to play at?
All - don’t be fooled by the small size of the band, we have a huge sound that can fill any room.
How loud will the band be?
As loud or as quiet as you want.
What is the band power requirement?
Two separate power sockets within 10m of the performing area.
Do The Medley Boys offer any additional services?
Yes, we can provide live background music earlier in the day, for an additional cost.
